The wholesale lending channel has continued to evolve in recent years. Those who were mortgage brokers years ago and left may not know how much better it is to be an independent broker today. The resources that exist to help independent mortgage professionals succeed are unparalleled in the industry — something Jennifer has learned firsthand since making the move back to wholesale in 2022.

“WHY I GET UP EVERY MORNING”

Throughout her extensive career in the mortgage industry, Jennifer has always approached her job with a singular focus.

“My goal and my purpose is to help families get into their home, to help people build generational wealth, to educate folks that perhaps never thought they'd have the opportunity to buy a home. That's why I get up every morning,” said Jennifer.

After getting into the business as a mortgage broker, Jennifer left for a job with a retail lender. She held several roles on the retail side as an executive in corporate compliance, internal audit, and learning and development. Those experiences opened her eyes to the differences between the retail and wholesale models.

“I knew that the products, the opportunity, the rates and the ability to have return on investment and earnings were so much more in wholesale and having a mortgage brokerage,” she said.

LEVERAGING HER SUPPORT SYSTEM

Jennifer’s transition back to the independent broker channel as a brokerage owner was seamless because she took full advantage of the support and resources that are available. She leaned on the help of her wholesale lending partners and is now advising her loan officers to follow the same path.

“I had no idea we have access to help with branding, marketing, and ways to contact and make connections with real estate agents to build your book of business,” said Jennifer.

Even though she’s an industry veteran, Jennifer is approaching her return to wholesale like she’s a rookie. She is fully invested in training that is available through her lending partners.

“The focus on us is contagious. It’s been nothing but phenomenal,” said Jennifer.

HELPING MORE PEOPLE

Jennifer’s focus on customer service put her in the enviable position of never having to pay for leads. Now that she’s back working as an independent mortgage broker, her ability to get referrals has expanded, along with her ability to help more people.

“We can help more builders close loans. We can offer their customers better products, better rates and close quickly. Most of the time, their internal mortgage company can't do that,” said Jennifer. “For real estate agents, we're helping them close quicker. Who doesn’t want to close quicker?”

Jennifer’s return to wholesale lending has helped her realize that you can go home again. For those in retail who are still considering making a similar move, she has a message to share.

 “I'm your example. I was in wholesale, went to retail and I came back. Take the plunge, ask questions, get support, get training, get partnered up with a great wholesale lender, but take the plunge. You don't want to wait.”
